Reassurance over the recent Jeep hacking incident
It was recently reported in Wired Magazine that the on-board Uconnect multi-media system in the new Jeep Cherokee was hacked remotely therefore compromising the safety of the driver. We would like to reassure our customers that this vulnerability is not associated with the UK models produced by Jeep and only raises concern for buyers in the US alone.
Uconnect is the on-board computer system which connects you and your phone with the car as well as other features like satellite navigation, DAB radio and more. The reason why hacking is a problem for US Jeep models and not the UK is because of the ‘embedded cellular modem’ within the Uconnect software, this enables you to create a wireless hotspot within the car which is liable to being hacked. This is a feature the UK range does not possess. Therefore, this type of hacking is not possible.
Based on the findings named above, Jeep vehicles sold in the UK and across Europe are NOT in any way exposed to the type of attack the magazine has reported.
