Your Winter Car Survival Guide
During the festive season people up and down the country take to the wintry roads to join up with family and friends for the Christmas holidays. Due to the increased level of traffic on the roads during this period it is important that you and your vehicle are fully prepared for travelling during times when driving conditions are poor.
There’s a lot you can do yourself to be prepared for when driving during the colder months. We recommend checking your car’s battery, topping up your engine coolant with antifreeze and making sure you check the weather forecast before setting off on long journeys. It may be necessary however, to get your car serviced or checked by professionals as a precaution.

We’ve put together a winter driving survival guide which will arm you the right kit and make a big difference should you get stuck on the roads.
Firstly it is important to have your car stocked up on the daily necessities:
1. A fully charged mobile phone.
2. An in-car phone charger or power pack.
4. Personal medication.
5. First aid kit.
6. Sat-nav or a printed route for an unfamiliar journey.
After you’ve made sure that you have access to the above on your journeys, you can add some other necessities which should always be readily available in the winter months:
1. A blanket, rug or sleeping bag.
3. Ice scraper and de-icer.
4. Torch and batteries.
5. Snacks – chocolate or cereal bars.
6. Extra screen wash.
Remember, the most important thing to do before going on a long journey is to always check the weather forecast before setting off. However if the weather’s forecast is severe, but the journey cannot be avoided it is important to pack these essentials as well:
1. A warm winter coat, scarf, hat, gloves and warm clothes.
3. Sturdy footwear.
4. A flask of hot drink.
We hope you are now better prepared for the long journeys that you may be facing in the near future, and whilst we hope you will never need to use your winter car survival guide, it is certainly an important thing to have available.
